Electronic Explosives / Narcotics Trace Detection System
Defence Solutions Australia markets TraceGaurd's (www.traceguard.com) state-of-the-art systems that enable effective automated trace detection of explosives / narcotics and other hazardous materials, for applications in aviation security and across the homeland defence sector. The sustained requirement for improved security and growing awareness of capability gaps present Defence Solutions Australia with a unique business opportunity. By offering the most comprehensive trace collection system available, the company will be uniquely positioned in a critical and unfilled segment of the EDS market. The specific market opportunity lies in its ability to provide comprehensive and improved explosive detection, while at the same time offering airports and other operators a compelling value proposition by:
TraceGuard's product suite is based on technology that automatically extracts traces of suspect substances from the interior and exterior of checked items, and transfers the collected particles to detectors for analysis and identification. Combining TraceGuard’s products with these detectors provides a significantly more thorough examination than the manual inspection process in use at airports today. By increasing detection accuracy with improved trace collection and reducing false alerts, TraceGuard will improve passenger and baggage throughput and flow, reducing unnecessary delay and inconvenience. |

TraceGuard also offers the promise of significant reduction in manpower costs and the margin of error associated with reliance on human judgment. The systems, which are moderately priced in comparison to existing equipment for personnel inspection and explosives detection, will allow governments to maintain their current investment in equipment and will provide cheaper lifecycles costs.
CompactSafe
TraceGuard’s CompactSafe automatically extracts traces of explosives from compact items, and is designed for use in aviation security systems as well as other homeland defense applications. Items such as laptops, medical devices and cameras often have complex internal mechanisms which are difficult to open, requiring more sophisticated inspection mechanisms than those used to screen standard carry-on items. CompactSafe enables complete extraction and sampling of substances from both the interior and exterior of the items it inspects.
Because there is no reliable equipment or system that can provide this level of accuracy or efficiency in trace extraction of explosives, CompactSafe offers a dramatic improvement over methods currently used in Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) and offers a considerable value proposition to security authorities worldwide.
At the core of the CompactSafe system is TraceGuard’s proprietary automated trace extraction technology, which seals and manipulates air molecules to cause the rapid release and extraction of particles from items being inspected. This technology is capable of extracting microgram levels of explosives, traces smaller than fingerprints. As with other TraceGuard products, CompactSafe is able to extract any type of explosive trace, in both solid and liquid form.
By consistently and rapidly providing more accurate samples, CompactSafe offers a significant advantage from both a security and an operational point of view. This is particularly true when the system is compared to manual collection methods (“swabbing”) currently employed to check these hard-to-inspect items. Furthermore, because CompactSafe is intended as an add-on to the standard chemical analyzers (detectors) already in operation, security and airport authorities will be able to maintain their investments in equipment purchased and deployed.
CompactSafe is the only explosive trace extraction system on the market for hard-to-check items and has been deployed for operational tests at a major international airport.
Applications
CompactSafe is designed to meet the needs of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other aviation security regulators worldwide. CompactSafe can also be used in a variety of additional mass transit and homeland security sites, including railway depots, subways, mail-sorting facilities, critical infrastructures and border crossings. TraceGuard is also developing CarrySafe for sampling carry-on luggage, CargoSafe for sampling palletized air cargo and HoldSafe for sampling checked luggage.
